WALLY WILLIAMS

 

 

 

The Cunliffe Bowling Club are sad to announce the death of Wally Williams, Wally was a long standing member and player of various Cunliffe teams over the years as well as helping with the various tasks of the green facility maintenance.

Wally's funeral will be on Wednesday 22nd November at 11.30 at the crematorium

The wearing of a token of red would be appreciated including Wrexham FC or Wales scarves.

 

 

 

 

It is with great sadness that Garden Village Bowling Club have reported the death of Barbara Edwards. A stalwart of the Club for many years including Chairwoman and perhaps more well known to many teams and players as a player and captain of Wrexham Veterans B team and the Malpas B team.

 

 

 

A special mention She was so proud of being the only female winner of the Garden Village Bowling Club Cup.

 

 

 

Barbaras's funeral will be at St.Margarets Church Garden Village at 1pm on Thursday 7th September and afterwards at the St.Margarets Church Hall, with a private family burial.

 

 

 

Jack Evans life member of Brymbo Bowling Club and player of several clubs and a true gentleman passed away on Tuesday 4th April

 

Jack's funeral will take place on Monday 24th April at 10am at Gwersyllt Church.

 

 

 

 

Subash Ohri

 

It was with great sadness that the Cunliffe Bowling Club heard  that  former member, Subash Ohri, died at 10.00am today (Saturday 18th of February) in hospital.

 

 

He would have been 73 in April this year. Subash served the Cunliffe Bowling club for many years in various capacities: secretary in the early 90s, committee member and captain of the Flintshire B team and also Wrexham C team for many years. Subash also served with the Welsh Crown green bowling Juniors.

 

 

He moved out of the area for a few years and left the club. The family moved back to Wrexham but Subash did not return to bowling.

GERALD  O’SHAUNESSY

 

Llay Welfare Bowling Club are sad to announce the passing of GERALD  O’SHAUNESSY on Tuesday 10th January. Gerald was a playing member for a long time and will be missed by all at Llay.

 

 

TEG LANGFORD

 

Coed Talon Bowling club is sad to announce the death yesterday on Tuesday 27th December of long serving member and player Teg Langford after a very short illness.

 

 

 

 HUBERT PHILLIPS

 

It is with sadness that Llay Welfare B.C. announce the passing of their Life Member HUBERT PHILLIPS on Tuesday 27 December , peacefully at Highfield Care Home , Pendine Park , Wrexham.

 

Besides being a Life Member at the Welfare , Hubert was also a Life Member on the Committee of the Vets League. He served the bowling community well over a number of years and will be greatly missed.

His Funeral will be on Thursday 19^th January  10:30 am  at Pentrebychan Crematorium.

The Cunliffe Bowling Club is sad to announce the death of long standing member Geoff Kelsall on the morning of Saturday 24th December 2022, his funeral will be at the Pentrebychan Crematorium on Monday 16th January at 1-30pm

 

Geoff was a very capable player playing in all the top teams at the Cunliffe over the years.

 Warwick Hulley

 

“Saddened to report the death of Warwick Hulley of Gresford Village BC on 17 October
(aged 87 years).  He was a character both on and off the Green and a fair bowler in his day”.

 

 

 

 

Ray Harrisson, (Coed Talon) passed away suddenly on Friday 2nd september.

 

 

It is with great sadness that Llay Welfare B.C. announce the passing of Derek (Knocker) White early this morning at Nightingale House. Derek was President of our club for many years and at the age of 86 had been a member for nearly 70 years.

 

 

He was one of the “characters” of bowling and will be sadly missed by many friends and acquaintances within the Wrexham area and further afield. Our sincere condolences go to his family.

 

Funeral arrangements for Derek are :---- Thursday 26th May , 12:45pm at St. Martin’s Church , Llay and then 2:00pm at Pentrebychan Crematorium

 

 

Eldred Abram of Castell Alun and Bradley has passed away. His funeral will be held at Pentrebychan Crematorium at 11.30am on Wednesday 30^th March

 

 

 

Terry (Ghandi) Williams ex Monsanto/Black Park player has passed away on the 27th January.

Terry was a well known and popular figure throughout the bowling world promoting and being involved with various bowls ventures over many years, he was instumental in setting up and running the WPA (Welsh Players Association) and more recently heavily involved with the setting up of the successful Bradley Winter League of which he was made a life member. RIP Ghandi

 

Terry's funeral arrangements are :-  February 2^nd 2pm at the Methodist Church, Chapel Lane, Chirk. LL14 5NF

It is sad to announce that Ken Davies (Garden Village) has passed away on Saturday 6th November 2021 Ken also formerly played for the Parciau B.C.

 

 

 

It is with great sadness that we have to report the passing of Brian Derbyshire of Rossett BC and also Farndon BC. on the 28th September 2021 He will be greatly missed by his team mates.

John Huxley

 

 

John Huxley, ex-landlord of the Cunliffe Pub and captain of the Cunliffe Saturday A team for a few years, has died at the age of 79 RIP John

 

Diana Langford – Coed Talon BC

 

Diana sadly passed away on Saturday 7 August 2021.  Our thoughts are with her family.  The funeral will take place on Wednesday 18 August  at 1 pm at Mold Parish Church followed by cremation at Northop Crematorium at 2 pm.

 

 

Hughie Lucas, of the Cunliffe B.C. died at the Maelor at the age of 85. He had been in poor health for a while. He was known as 'Cockbird' and acted as captain of various teams over the years.

He was also chairman of the club for a while and was instrumental in raising funds by getting advertisers at the green. In addition to his serious roles, he was a character who never ceased to entertain in one way or another.

 

 

Peter Beavis of Johnstown and formally of Ponciau Parc collapsed and sadly passed away on Sunday 18th July 2021

It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Norma Humphreys who played bowls for Castell Alun.

Norma caught Covid and was admitted into hospital on Christmas day then she developed pneumonia and sadly passed away, our thoughts go out to Norma`s family and friends at this very sad time.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Iorwerth ( Iori ) Hughes on Sunday 27th September. He was a valued member of Llay Welfare and Castell Alun Bowling Clubs for many years, and our most sincere condolences are extended to his family at this very sad time.

It is sad to announce that Gren Edwards (Parciau B.C.) has passed away on Friday 17th July 2020 Gren was a stalwart of the club and held various positions within the club over the years.

 

 

Gladys Jones of Bradley B.C. sadly passed away on Saturday 20th June 2020.

People will remember Gladys as the secretary of the original Bradley Bowling Club and many will remember Gladys and Bob from their time's at Bradley, Castell Alun, and initially Garden Village. 

 

 Its is sad to announce that Alan Garton of the Cunliffe Bowling club has passed away. (Monday 25th May)

 

Alan will be missed not just as a player for the Cunliffe but also as to the work he did in cutting and maintaining the green at the Cunliffe. 

 

 

 

It is sad to announce that JB Jones of Garden Village B.C. has passed away, John did virtually every role at Garden Village over the years including President, Chairman, Secretary, Captain and greensman for a few years. 

 

 

It is sad to announce that Doug Birch (Parciau) has passed away, Doug was at one time Captain of Parciau's C team

One more to add is Alf Lloyd (Gate) who passed away after a fall, Alf was a character on and off the green

 

 

 

It is sad to announce that Doug Christy former Garden Village player has passed away. His funeral is on Tuesday 3rd March at Pentrebychan Crematorium at 2pm

 

2019

 

 

It is sad to announce that Cliff Littlehales ex Turf, Gresford Colliery, Miners (Grosvenor) and Garden Village passed away this morning 29th December 2019 aged 90 

 

Cliff was a prolific top player in his day winning the All England and Senior Welsh merit as well as many other competitions including the Burton Cup as well as playing many times for The North Wales County Team as it was known then.

 

Cliff's celebration of life will be at Bethel Chapel Kenyon Avenue Garden Village LL11 2SP on Wednesday January 8th at 12-30 pm with a private family burial to follow.

 

The family have asked for there to be no black at this service.

 

 

 

It is sad to announce that Colin Jones' wife Kath passed away this morning. (Tuesday 10th December 2019)

 

Kath was a well known and popular lady who played at and for the Gate Bowling Club for many years and represented them in every league they were in over the years, she will be sorely missed around all the greens.

 

Kath`s Celebration of Life will take place on Monday 23rd Dec 2019 at Pentrebychan Crematorium at 10.30 am and refreshments at Cunliffe Arms Pub Jeffreys Road Wrexham LL12 7RE

Cyril Adams, Life Member of the WCGBA, the Wrexham League and the Veterans League, died on Sunday 17 November 2019  aged 93 years.  Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.

John Lloyd, President of the Wrexham League has paid tribute to Cyril’s input into the game as a player, administrator and honorary figure head. “ Cyril cared for bowls and bowlers who in turn held him in high esteem.  He came from a bowling family and he leaves behind several bowling connections.  His name will live on in the Cyril Adams County Cup.  Cyril’s contribution to our wonderful game was significant and we should remember him in that light”

Nigel Evans of Brymbo Bowling Club passed away today 8th November 2019

 

 

 

It is sad to announce that Ivor Parry a former playing member of the Miners (Grosvener) Garden Village, Cunliffe and Esclusham has passed away on Wednesday 11th September 2019.

 

 

 

 Ivor was a former North Wales player in the fifties and sixties era, and at the time in 1952 aged 24  he was the youngest ever player to reach the semi-final of the All England, where he lost to the eventual winner A.A.Shore.

 

 

He also won The Senior Welsh Merit in 1981 along with many other competitions.

 

Ivor's funeral will be at Wrexham Crematorium on Wednesday 25th September @ 2pm and in The Cunliffe Arms afterwards.

 

 

 

 

 

 

It is sad to report the Death of Des Wynne (Gate HH) yesterday 7th Aug.

 

The funeral of the late Des Wynne member of the Gate Hangs High Bowling club will take place at the Crematorium and afterwards at Brymbo Cricket Club on Tuesday 20th August 2019 at 11am

 

 

It is with great sadness that Phil Jones (Parciau BC) has passed away, his funeral will be on Thursday 16th May 11 30am 2019 at All Saints Church Poyser Street, then across the Road to the Wrexham Cemetary.

 

 

The funeral of Les Williams will be held on Tuesday 14th May 11am 2019 at the Tabernacle Church, Hill Street, Rhostyllen followed at 12 o clock at Pentre Buchan Crematorium. The Wake is at Esclusham BC

 

Sad news today hearing that Les Williams (les the barber) of Esclusham B.C. formerly of Gresford Colliery and the Turf passed away, Les was a character on and off the green and in his day was an excellent bowler.  RIP Les

 

 

Frank Simon’s (Garden Village) passed away last week his funeral is next Thursday  18 April 2019 at 1.30 at Gresford church

 Joan Goodwin (Bradley Bowling Club) passed away on 27th November 2018 

Her funeral will be held at 11am on 10th December at St Paul’s Church in Pentre Broughton followed by burial at All Saints Churchyard in Southsea.

 

 

Stan Percival formerly of Coedpoeth Bowling Club passed away on Monday 12th November 2018

 

 

 

I have been advised of the death on 9 September 2018 of Winston Hughes aged 91 years lately of Gresford Village BC and previously of Gresford Colliery and the Turf BC’s. His funeral will take on Friday 21 September 2018 at Pentrebychan Crematorium at 10:30am.

 

 

 

It is sad to report that Dave Haslam collapsed and died on the Green at Coed Talon on the 19th April he played Bowls for many years both at Gresford Colliery and  Connahs Quay, he was also a valued member of the Wrexham Veterans committee and will be sadly missed by a lot of Bowlers.
