2026 Coors Meole Open Preview

The 2026 Coors Meole Open takes place tomorrow starting at 11.30 with 32 players looking to win the Doug Marrs trophy. Callum Wraight starts as favourite to win this for the fifth time, but has Staffordshire Merit winner Aaron Tapper first game. Greg Smith is at the bottom of the draw, and begins his campaign to win this for the first time against Dan Petcher is one of the games of the first round. Just above them is Mike Beer against Gary Beff, Gary looking to cause an upset against the former Champion of Champion. Reigning Champion Danny Barwise looks to follow in Callum's footsteps in retaining this but has a tough opener against Welsh Merit Champion Nick Jones. The winner of that could face All England Winner Darren Plenderleith, if he overcomes Kieran Cooper, who qualifies here for the first time. Nathan Dawes against Pete Grimston should be a good match given both played well to qualify, while at the top of the first half is Dave East, who was runner up last year in the Staffordshire Merit, against Danny Edmonds, winner of mutltiple titles in Cumbria. Paul Williams is the other former winner in the field, and plays Nick Hughes of Malpas Sports, with Lee Brown just below him, who won a title on Good Friday in the Potteries! Lee plays Nathan Lacey, who has qualified for the first time here. Ben Percival against Rhys Marshall is a clash of two very good young players, while Will Childs and Adam Jones are just above them and both looking for their first big run in an open. Dave Worthington against Paul Dale is a clash of two experienced players, while Dennis Lewis Open winner Sam Millward has Mel Higham, returning to the form he had before taking around 20 years out the game at the turn of this century! County Merit winner Spencer Clarke, who qualifies here for the first time in 22 years, takes on Gareth Davies, who impressed when reaching the Semi Finals of the Shifnal Spring Open last week. Ryan Hocknull is gaining plenty of experience in this competition, and he will look to make his first deep run in a big open when playing Andy Howie, who will be looking to do the same. Chris Dodds is the story of the competition so far, having qualified here on his first visit after just two years of bowls. He faces Matt Beeston who again took some good scalps on the number one green when qualifying.

Good luck to all 32 players and the winner will qualify for the BCGBA Champion of Champions, Shropshire Champion of Champions and the Blackpool Masters.

Scores will be posted on here as well as going Live on the Facebook group Shropshire Open Bowls Competitions.
