Minutes of the 2023 AGM for the

SOUTHPORT LV BOWLS LEAGUE

Held at Fleetwood Hesketh on 21st November 2023

  1. Our Chairman, Chris Harding, opened the meeting at 8pm.

  2. Roll Call - all clubs were represented. 30 members attended.

  1. Tribute to members lost during 2023. Dave Bannister, Bob Marshall, Terry Lloyd, Bill Standish & Arthur Baxter.

  2. Minutes of 2022 AGM had been in the public domain since the end of 2022. There were no matters arising from these minutes. Stuart Wharton proposed we accept the minutes, with John Stringfellow seconding the proposal. The minutes were accepted unanimously.

  3. The Secretaries Report had been posted on the results website for several weeks, for all members to see. There were no matters arising from this report. Mike Milne proposed we accept the report, with Keith Sproston seconding the proposal. This report was accepted unanimously.

  4. The Treasurers Report and Balance Sheet had been posted on the results website for several weeks, for all members to see. There were no matters arising from this report. Roger Foulkes proposed we accept the report, with Peter Rimmer seconding the proposal. This report was accepted unanimously.

  5. The Chairman thanked the Committee for their hard work, especially Mark Eustace for setting up the leagues bank account. He thanked Jeff McMillan (2023 President) and the clubs that held finals days of league competitions. He also thanked Fleetwood Hesketh for the hard work putting on a superb President's Day.

  6. There were no applications to either join or leave the league.

  7. We had two proposals presentated to the meeting.

    1) from Sandbrook Park- Split the 'Home' and 'Away' fixtures. This would mean that we no longer play these fixtures consecutively, we would have two 'halves' to the season. Chris Madden seconded this proposal. The proposal was defeated

    2) from Victoria Park - Move one of the competitions to the end of the season, to assist greens without floodlights to fulfill the league fixtures easier. This proposal did not get seconded and was not voted on.

10) Both the Secretary and the Treasurer agreed to not take any Honourariams for the coming season. The Secretary advised the floor that there was a proposed budget in place for the coming season that would keep the League Fees at £60 per team and still maintain a healthy £1000+ balance at the end of the season. He also asked the floor to think about either a business or an individual to sponsor the league competitions, this would just be to purchase winners and runners-up medals for the competitions. He made the floor aware of the Burgess Family sponsorship of the Handicap Singles competition, where a shield and winners medals were purchased by the family for the league. He is looking for around £25 sponsorship for the LV Individuals competition and £50 sponsorship for both of the league pairs competitions.

11) Hesketh Arms BC proposed Mike Milne to be the 2024 League President. This was seconded by Alistair Adams and accepted unanimously by the floor.

Chris Harding declared that he was willing to stay on as chairman. This was proposed by Kerrin Adams and seconded by Steve McManus. This was accepted unanimously by the floor.

John Hughes declared that he was willing to stay on as vice-chairman. This was proposed by John Baker and seconded by Alistair Adams. This was accepted unanimously by the floor.

Gary Burgess declared that he was willing to stay on as secretary. This was proposed by Roger Foulkes and seconded by John Baker. This was accepted unanimously by the floor.

Mark Eustace declared that he was willing to stay on as treasurer. This was proposed by John Stringfellow and seconded by Norman Hadfield. This was accepted unanimously by the floor.

12) Tom McHale had e-mailed the league to inform us of Sefton Councils announcment that building works will be starting on the land adjacent to the driveway at the side of Sandbrook Park BC. These works are likely to go on till sometime in 2026. Whilst the green will not be affected, there may be issues regarding parking, noise and general disturbances. They will keep the league informed of any future developments on this matter.

Mark Eustace asked if all clubs could pay their league fees via bank transfer, as this is the easiest way to get the funds depositted into our account.

13) Jeff McMillan was invited up by the Secretary to present the league trophies and prize money.

  1. The next meeting will be the Delegates meeting for team and player registrations. This will be at Scarisbrick BC on Tuesday 20th February 2024 at 7.30pm.

  2. The Chairman closed the meeting at 8.27pm
